Biography

Mark Jakob is the driver of the #7 Formula 2 powerboat.  Jakob has succeeded in making racing not just a hobby, but a career since he started powerboat racing over a decade ago.  Mark has finished in the APR Superleague (APR) series Top-10 every season, because of his talented driving.  He earned the title Rookie of the Year in the Formula 2 category in 2008.

Jakob won the 2010 National Championship, 2010 North American Championship, 2009 APR Series Championship and the coveted 2008 Michigan State Championships.  Mark has other numerous wins throughout his career.  He has learned a considerable amount about driving from his mentor, Formula-1 (and Hall of Champions) driver Chris Fairchild, other racers and from personnel experience on the course. He takes his talent, knowledge and positive attitude with him to each race and very seldom makes a mistake on the course.  Mark listens to the boat and takes pride in running a clean race.

His outgoing personality and top finishes have won over many of the young fans at numerous race courses.  The crowd cheers every time the number 7 roars down the straightaway or completes a pass all the way down to the checkered.

Along with his racing obligations, Mark owns a design business.  He enjoys working on the race boat during his free time and repairs not only his boats, but boats for several other racers too.

CREW

Jon Guimond  -  Crew Chief

Birthplace: Kankakee, IL
Current Residence: Kankakee, IL

Jon started his boat racing career in the 1970’s. When he was 14 years old, he built his first race boat called a “mini-mo” with a 9.8 Mercury off of a fishing boat, which he borrowed from his brother, Larry. This was the beginning of a long racing career and love of the sport.

Jon’s first race was in 1973 in the J-production class; his boat was a ski-boat with a 110 mercury. His brother Larry was racing in the same class.  When the checkered flag flew and the water final settled, he had beat his older brother. Through the years, Jon has raced in classes like Family-E (FE), SST 120, SST 100, Mod VP and SST 150. Jon has won numerous Championship during his time in boat racing.

In 1980, he teamed with legendary Harold Nauss in the Sport “C” and Mini Grand Prix Class.

In the early 2000, Jon began to crew for his son, Daniel and daughter, Kasey in the SST 45 class. As well as our Sam Miller and Mark Jakob in the SST 60 class.

When Jon isn’t working on high performance racing engines you will find him helping out other boaters at L & G Marine, in Kankakee, IL.
